The pedal bike generator business works as such. One person in the village takes on the responsibility of pedaling the generator, charging batteries and then renting out the batteries with lights. Thus keeping the money for lighting in the village instead of buying kerosene from the cities. A portion of the money from the generator business is invested in the town bank where loans can be made. In order to run the system, photos were taken for identification to establish responsibilities for battery, light rentals and loans.
